Pro-life vs Pro-choice. It doesn't have to be a versus. It can be Pro-life and Pro-choice. Our community can all work together to protect the needs of the mother as well as the rights of an unborn child. We don't have to choose one over the other.
Hey Jonny, I apologize for not replying earlier in the South Park topic. Unfortunately I didn't set any email notifications for replies. But first of all, let me thank you for your objectiveness, as it seems that lots of others are not being objective towards this topic - or towards my comments - by any means. I can't blame them though, as I know how hard it is to put your self in others shoes.
I'm an Muslim living in Egypt. Here we find a diversity of opinions concerning Islam as well, since not everyone is a believed of his/her own religion. Unfortuantely, not a lot of people know much about Islam, even though its widely proliferated throughout the world. I can't claim that I know every little detail about my religion, but I'm trying to.
Concerning your free-of-anti-muslim-propaganda stations, with all my respects, I really doubt that. When 9/11 occured G.W. Bush visited mosques and stated that Islam is a religion of Peace; however, his general attorney opposed his views claiming that it's a religion of violence and terrorism. Later on when Bush declared 'War on Terror' and specifically referred to Afganistan of being terrorists, it was generalized later on that Muslim-Arabs are terrorists. Of course, radical Muslims (who claim to be true Muslims) supported this generalization by their vicious actions. Bush's speeches about terrorism and fighting terrorism throughout his presidency always referred to Islam and Muslims - very minimally did we hear his specify who the terrorists really are. Whether it's intentional or not, this by itself is propaganda: repetition and assertion. CNN once aired a video news release of Palestinian kids joying over radical islamist attacks; however, it turned out to be fake, as the palestinian kids were really celebrating a traditional feast, like Thanks Giving or Chrismas in America, for example. Wouldn't you consider that a card stacking technique? Excluding the whole truth in order to give out a certain impression of a certain situation or topic? Well I would. Ofcourse El Jezira has anti-american Propaganda though, I would never deny that. Actually, propaganda is all around us whether it has negative or positive causes.
Concerning your questions though, I'll be honest with you and I'll try to answer what I can since I'm not a 100% thorough in my religion.
1. Why does Koran teach muslims to "fight and slay the infidels wherever you find them?" Surah (9:5). Most muslim extremists use this passage to justify their actions. What does this actually mean if not inciting violence?
Koran never encouraged Muslims to do such thing. This passage is more or less rephrased by those extremists just for the purpose of justifying their unjustifiable actions. The Quran states: "Fight in the cause of Allah those who fight you, but commit no aggression; for Allah loves not transgressors" (2:190). Also, "...and make not your hands contibute to your destruction; but do good; for God loveth those who do good." (2:195).
2. Why does muslim woman have no right to vote in muslim ruled theocratic countries and don't have equal rights? Iran being on the top of the list, and they are ruled by clerics, supposedly the elite and experts of Koran. Why are they also forced to wear a dress that covers from top of their heads to tip of their toe?
Some Muslim countries are rather extreme in their laws (not in a sense of terrorism but in the sense of overrating their laws in terms of culture or beliefs). For instance, the 'Nekab' or the way women veil them selves by covering their faces too is NOT based on Islam. Some people justify it as a religious aspect, but there is no verse in the Koran which states that women should cover their faces and put on black veils. Honestly, it scares the hell out of me, and lots of Muslims don't believe in it by any means. It's mostly cultural. For instance, in Yemen women can't walk around without covering their faces, only because it's cultureally unaccepted. In Saudi it's claimed to be a religious aspect; however, it's not. To prove that it's cultural, as soon as Saudi women arrive in Cairo, they take off their veils that cover their faces. However, the veil which only covers the hair is recommended. It's purpose is to be conservative in terms of clothes not to reveal parts of the woman's body which could cause any sexual desires. More or less, in Egypt its cultural amongst conservative C classes, since they have a very conservative mind-set that's too close-minded to accept others. But in the higher classes, because of better education and a more diverse environment, if women get veiled then it's out of will and choice. Of course, this isn't based on all women, but most of them. In Iran though, I don't get WHY they force their women to get veiled from head to toe, but my predictions, based on my Arab-Muslim culture and experience, is that it's also a cultural thing - my ideology is if you're forced to do something that you don't believe in, then one of the factors affecting your decision is culture.
However, concerning the votes, women do have rights. Check this web page out: it will answer your questions. Also, notice in the page that it says: During the time of Prophet Muhammad, women actively participated in the equivalent of voting, known as baya (which was a way of endorsing political leadership). In Egypt too us women have the right to vote! :)3. Why do muslim nations in middle east generally as a whole want to wipe the nation of Isreal off the face of the planet? Iran and Syria being on the top of this list. These countries are ruled by Islamic Theocracy. It causes Isreal to be vigilent for their survival. Isreal will never give anyone another attempt at genocide, forcing West to provide support. If it's all about peace, then why are these Islamic ruled government threatening annihilation?
We're not threatening Israel of annihilation at all. We don't support the ideology behind zionism though, we believe that what Israel is doing to Palestinians is cruel and vicious! They barge into their lands, claiming that its there's and then kill innocent civilians, those of whom are women and little children. Palestinians are not living, they live to fight their invaders, while Israelies have got homes and live happily, they greed for more. But still we don't want to 'wipe them off the face of this planet'; we do believe that they have rights, that the genocide that happened was by ALL means cruel and vicious too, but this gives them NO right to commit a genocide towards others - Palestinians! You're looking at it from one point of view, you should read more and ask more about Palestinians opinions and the points of views of the Arabs. From my own point of view, I don't believe in zionism and can't support it, but I believe in Israelis and I have nothing against Jews, and I acknowledge them as human beings like us and4. Is there anywhere in Koran or Islamic belief that when a muslim dies via "jihad", even though that may involve murdering innocent people, that they will go to heaven and their reward is virgin girls? I mean, is this stuff really true? Lets just define "innocent" as anyone who is not directly involved in creating conflict. I know what Bin-Laden's version of "innocent" is; if you're american, and america supports Isreal, you aint innocent. Not that definition.
NOT TRUE - suicide bombing is UNACCEPTABLE. Suicide itself is forbidden in Islam, so how could suicide bombing be acceptable especially that you're not just killing your self but also committing murder. That in Islam should count as a murderous offense, and thus should be punished for in the afterlife. And this whole getting rewarded with virgin girls is not true. I honestly have no clue where those radical Muslim fundamentalists get those words from, but I'm sure that they rephrase words or modify words to justify their hideous actions, simply because it's not stated in the Koran that this is eligible or acceptable, and it could never be acceptable; on the contrary, it's forbidden. Unfortunately, those radicals give a really negative image of Islam when their claims are just full of lies. I'll repeat the verse again from the Koran: "...and make not your hands contribute to your destruction; but do good; for God loveth those who do good." (2:195).
5. If Islam is all about peace, then what the heck is going on? Are the Clerics completely failing to teach Koran properly?
Unfortunately, yes. Some clerics could be extreme, as when mentioned before in terms of claiming that women should get veiled covering their faces, or that a woman has no right to vote, or that suicide bombing is allowed...Not true!
One last thing: after 9/11 many Muslims sympathized with the victims and Muslim-Arab countries, such as Egypt, Syria, Saudi Arabia and more, supported the U.S. and opposed the terrorists and condemned their actions as vicious acts. Their was an immediate conference that gathered moderate Muslim leaders from Arab countries and from the U.S. to fight those terrorists and oppose their actions. Anyways, I'm sorry if this seemed too long, but your questions are very thorough :) You're welcome to ask more and I would love to hear your opinion on this :)
